  • Quest giver: Remember back when you started helping me with my research, and collected Firegrub Heads for me to study? It was at least a few weeks ago... time sure does fly when you're busy! I've been wanting to compare the anatomy of Firegrubs and Blowgrubs for a while, but when I was checking our previous Firegrub specimens I noticed they had started deteriorating!
The remains didn't combust when the Mimic died, but it seems like they slowly break apart on their own, even when tightly sealed in storage. So if I want to compare Blowgrubs and Firegrubs, it looks like I'll need some remains of each to study. Do you have time to help out?
Thanks! You'll need to gather 20 Blowgrub Heads and 20 Firegrub Heads so we can make a good comparison with the best specimens. Let me know when you've found enough!
  • After completion: Perfect! Hmm, I'd better label these specimen bags so I don't get the two confused. I hope you don't mix them up in your supply pack!
Hello again, [player's name]. I've been comparing the Firegrub heads and Blowgrub heads, and they're very similar than any other two breeds of Mimics that we've seen.
The main difference I've noticed is that the surface of the Firegrub head seems tougher than that of a Blowgrub, which is either to withstand the flames on its body, or caused by them. Other than that, the Firegrub head is slightly smaller than the Blowgrub. And of course there are traces of the flame-retardant jelly that we discovered earlier, which the Blowgrub does not have.
In all the years since the Skystone shattered, there haven't been any recorded sightings of Mimics lke the Firegrub, so we think they're a very new breed that emerged after the fires started burning in the Hatchwood Wilds. Perhaps we'll eventually see the Firegrub evolving into a new type of Mimic that isn't as similar to a Blowgrub, or which takes on other adaptations.
Or perhaps we'll have exterminated all of the Mimics on the ground before they have a chance to evolve any further! Though we know Mimics adapt much quicker than any natural creatures, so there's no telling how soon they'll evolve. Anyway, thanks again for the help, [player's name], I've got a new Sprocket as usual for your collection!
  • Reward: A New Sprocket (Mimics of Hatchwood Wilds: Blowgrub), 30 XP
